A Model of A Change

I apologize for gallivanting for sometime but to hear this news (new Masonic Lodges activation) is wonderful indeed. May the passage of time sprout true and worthy Brethren who understand why sometimes change must be done, accept the fact, and move on. Birds of same feather flocked together--a Law of Nature just like Law of Gravity. There is/are reasons for rebellion, justified or not and to succeed rebels need leaders with vision---men who do not see their place in grand scale but rather committed to continuity and eventual accomplishment of their cause. There are Freemasons on both sides of the street, how do we treat each other depends on how much we learned from the lessons of the Craft.

Our history can show that Philippines independence even short lived was led with many Brethren --- men with visions who do not see their place in grand scale. The recent Masonic activities in the the country as reported in Recent Events in Philippine Masonry  blog has shown that Philippines have men with vision who do not see their place in grand scale. Not everything was lost, there is always hope. The Nation needs leaders with vision, the Nation needs role models who can be emulated and be trusted to be ethical in their ways. The Nation does not have to look far and beyond, these leaders are already downrange and on site.

The larger question is whether the Nation itself wants a change. Will it take another one hundred years of injustice, oppression, and servitude before the Nation hears the voices of men with vision? The real issue is not much about the leaders but the people who select their voices. We reap what we sow. It is my hope that may people realize that the leaders do not make miracles, it requires commitment from all those who want the change--- a lesson from IGLPI.

Masonry in the History of the Philippines

Masonry has existed in the Philippines since 1856, when the first Masonic Lodge was established in the country. This lodge was called “Primera Luz Filipina” established by a Spanish naval officer, Jose Malcampo in the province of Cavite. Although organized under a Portuguese Grand Orient and exclusively for Spaniards, its formation marked the introduction of Masonry in Philippine soil.

Philippine history is rich in the contributions and role of Masonry and Masons in the country. The propagation of the ideals of democracy is perhaps their biggest contribution. Our heroes Jose Rizal, Marcelo del Pilar, Mariano Ponce, Graciano Lopez Jaena, Emilio Aguinaldo, Andres Bonifacio, Apolinario Mabini and many other Filipino patriots were all Masons.

The influence of Masons and Masonry on nationalism was not confined in Spain. Once the Filipinos were allowed access to lodges established under the Grand Spanish Orients, Masonry flourished and nationalistic fervor grew. Filipino Masons found support and protection even from colonial governors and Spanish government officials.

The impact and influence of Masons and Masonry in the struggle for freedom can not be denied. This is probably even more evident in the fact that our heroes were descendants of Continental Grand Orients; nurtured in the same brand of Masonry that inspired the Masonically led 1789–1799 French Revolution and the Spanish uprising of 1868. Katipunan Supremo Andres Bonifacio and General Emilio Aguinaldo were said to have studied the history of the French Revolution. Aguinaldo’s revolutionary theme, Equality, Fraternity and Liberty was definitely inspired by the French revolution

Though this humble Brother might have some thoughts in response to a similar inquiry, I ask your indulgence for sidestepping for I would not hazard the notion as I am not certain if it will satisfy the end result of your question. Being away for more than half of my life and cannot even vote, I am but a lost voice of a former son who yearned for the welfare of the people and land I used to call home. On Recognition

Freemasonry is universal and is a worldwide organization. It is ancient and exist in many parts of the world. Freemasons are organized in the smallest group called a Lodge. Several Lodges are thence organized into a District or Bodies; with Districts further organized into a Provincial Grand Lodge, or a Regional Grand Lodge and the larger organization called. a Grand Lodge or a Grand Orient. Each Grand Lodge is autonomous. In each country, state, province, region or even a big City, you find a Grand Lodge or many Grand Lodges.

So back to the question – “ What makes you a Mason?”, “How do I know you to be a Mason?”,” Where were you made a Mason?”

The IGLPI will await their time with PATIENCE. It will progress and moved-on.

Lodge Elections and Installations of Officers

IGLPI Moves ON - - Lodge Elections and Installations of Officers


Pursuant to the IGLPI Constitution and the Interim Elections and Appointments Codes, the Lodges of the Most Worshipful Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands (IGLPI) conducted their elections in the month of September. The Installation of the newly elected and appointed Lodge Officers for the ensuing Masonic Year is scheduled for October.

Once again, Masonic organizations move on. Elections and installation are activities that bespeaks of the dynamism of organizations. It reflects on the strength and solidarity of Lodges. It manifest the growth and continued existence of Lodges. It exemplifies the harmony and unity of the members and of their pride in the Fraternity.

I have observed the conduct of elections in some of the Lodges. We have indeed matured in the better and proper election of those really worthy, well qualified, duly prepared. I have observed changes in the elective positions, which exemplifies that the Brethren are watchful of the performance of the elected officers. I was also informed that in some Lodges, it took several ballots before an election can be declared for a JW. It simply speaks of the good bench of qualified candidates and those who vouches for them. There was no report of electioneering, indeed a good sign.

Installation of elected and appointed officers started with Mendez Nunez Lodge No. 8 last September 22 and with Cavite Lodge No. 2 last September 29, 2007. The well- attended affairs were conducted in solemn atmosphere as demanded by the occasion. Minor changes in the sequence of the rituals were made following a recommended Ritual submitted to the Committee on Masonic Works. No change in the substance were recommended except of course the name” IGLPI” had to be made. By and large the ceremony was impressive, smart, immaculate, orderly

IGLPI Moves ON -- SEC Approves IGLPI Registration


On September 24, 2007, the Securities and Exchange Commission approved the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws of the Most Worshipful Independent Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippine Islands Inc. The Certificate of Incorporation had a Company Registry No CN200713250 and a Company TIN 006-862-814.

The IGLPI is now granted a juridical personality as a Corporation. In so far as the laws of the country is concerned, the IGLPI exist as a legal, and lawfully formed or created organization.

The IGLPI authorizes and encourage its Lodges to incorporate and be registered in the Securities and Exchange Commission. It respects the Lodges and their ownership of their properties, their funds, their temples, their lands. It does not compel the Lodges to place their properties in the name of their Grand Lodge nor hold them in trust for their Grand Lodge.

The IGLPI respects the power and empowerment of the Lodges. It exist to serve the Lodges. It does not seek to be a ruling absolute monarch over the Lodges, their temples, their properties, their funds, their lands, their members or even their future, It does not even intend to hold proprietary rights over their Lodge names.

How does one feel to be one (1) year old?

How does Pilar Lodge feel to be 115 years old?

How does Cavite Lodge feel to be 105 years old?

Or how does Bagong Buhay Lodge feel to be 100 years old?

How does Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Lodge feel to be 92 years old?

How does Pintong Bato Lodge feel to be 88 years old?

How does Bagong Ilaw Lodge feel to be 82 years old?

How does La Naval Lodge feel to be 23 years old?

How does Mendez Nunez Lodge feel to be 10 years old?

An infant at age one has just learned to walk on two legs or crawl on both hands and feet. He has learned to recognize faces, things or place. He has learned to feel, to respond to touch. He has learned to use his senses.He has to be propped up and assisted, fed, washed, bathe, cloth. His body system is constantly switched – on.


A man at age 100 has ceased to walk or to crawl on both legs and feet. He does not recognize faces, places or things. He has lost his feelings and does not respond to touch. He senses are failing, He has to be propped up and assisted by – a wheelchair, a ventilator, a pacemaker, a hearing aid, eyeglasses, a food blender, a dialysis machine, a heart lung machine, etc. His body system is slowly switched-off.

In between, man goes through a vibrant youth and adult life. A period of progressive perfection of his GOD given talents where his useful undertakings are rewarded; while on the other hand, a period of abuse and misuse is punished with defeat, loss, sickness, death.

On that fateful afternoon of September 10, 2006, we read the Declaration of Independence and lawfully, properly, regularly, constituted the Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands in fitting ceremonies at the President General WB Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine at Kawit, Cavite, Philippines. We re-chartered and renumbered our Lodges as Masonic tradition dictates. The interim Grand Lodge officers took their oath of office. The new Grand Lodge Standard and Seal was adopted. The new Grand Lodge March was sung. The Lodges received their new Charters and the old ones were turned over. The Lodges received their new Lodge Standard while their old ones were lowered and retired. From then on, we continued to switched – on our systems.

The journey started a long time ago

The journey of IGLPI was a journey in search of further light in the pursuit of true masonry. GLP PGM Raymond E Wilmarth said “
“The service we render to Masonry must be to support its tenets, enforce its traditions, and safeguard its fundamental status in civilization as the Brotherhood of Men under the Fatherhood of God. Our discipline is to change ourselves to fit Masonry – not to change Masonry to fit ourselves…If we cannot change ourselves, perhaps It would be better to change from Freemasonry to whatever association we find fits us… “


And so, we left the Grand Lodge. But we never left Masonry. Instead, we continued to search for true Masonry where we become fit and proper. Thus we formed the IGLPI.

What is Masonry?… Bro Newton defined it from a German Handbuck , an Encyclopedia of Masonry, 1900, Vol I, p 320
" Masonry is the activity of closely united men who, employing symbolical forms borrowed principally from the mason’s trade and from architecture, work for the welfare of mankind, striving morally to ennoble themselves and others, and thereby to bring about a universal league of mankind, which they aspire to exhibit even now in a small scale..”


Marcelo H. Del Pilar and Jose Rizal embarked on the project to establish Lodges in the Philippines exclusive only to Filipinos for two (2) reasons:

First- That Masonry could help unify the Filipinos and mobilize them with a sense of nationhood.
Second.- The Filipino Masons perceived Masonry as the “ universal protest against the ambition of tyrants” as the “supreme manifestation of democracy”, as the organization which could transform the Philippines “ from a downtrodden Spanish colony, poor and sickly, without rights and liberties, into a dignified, free and prosperous nation.”,


And so the IGLPI was later born.

Jose Rizal said that” Masons should not rest so long as the world nurtures a tyrant, so long as the night gathers in its echoes the moans of the oppressed, so long as there are slaves, so long as there are oppressors. And this work is perhaps the greatest that Masonry has imposed upon
itself and the only one worthy of its universal name…”


And the tyrants and oppressors are gone and forgotten in our craft.


As Albert Pike wrote in Morals and Dogmas 1873…” A true Mason does not lie, neither in a little nor in a great thing; neither in the substance nor in the circumstance; neither in the word nor in the deed. His words that which deceives, equally with that which is false…”..


And those who lied are gone and forgotten in our craft.

A year ago, we signed the Declaration of Independence. We were 7 Lodges then. Now we are 8 lodges. A year ago, 154 signed the Declaration of Independence. Today, NOT one of those who signed left. They are all still here with us. A year ago, there were MANY spiritually united in our goals for reform, justice and democracy. Today there are many more who share, understand or sympathize with our faith and resolve for a better Freemasonry. Let us remain as Brothers even to those who do not share our longings. We have to understand how even Christianity suffered before it grew; or how Freemasonry was persecuted before it found acceptance.

Our one (1) year of life and success is a testimony of all your efforts and perseverance and sacrifices. I salute you, each and everyone of you here and those not here. We are IGLPI.

Hindi tayo tatantanan ng kabila na akitin na bumalik na daw sa kanila. O baka kaya hadlangan ang ating paglalayag? Ngayon pa? Pagkatapos ng lahat.! Now that we are one, united and harmonious in our journey to true masonry! .

We have so many reasons to celebrate today. We are one and united. We remain harmonious We continue to receive Petitions. We continue to meet, transact business and elect officials. We continue to formulate rules to guide our administration. We continue to communicate with other Brethrens with websites and blogsites developed by the labor of love of our friends. We continue to consolidate. We continue to strengthen our organizations. We continue to solidify. Our IGLPI is ALIVE.

There are many more things to do in the next few years. We will proceed to strengthen and stabilize our finances. We will proceed thence to build our capital investments. We will proceed to enhance our image and prestige in the Masonic world. We will develop our Masonic Education System. We will improve our Lodges and until thence we will build our Grand Lodge Temple.

I charge you, all of us, to be stouthearted. Fear not, what men can do unto you. But have faith always in the GAOTU whose blessings we should always seek .Be BRAVE. Let everyone be an EXEMPLAR of a TRUE and GOOD Mason.

We shall build a family of Masons. I had urged everyone to come and be with your love ones tonight. So we can always remember that Masonry teaches us that a family of Masons, can eventually evolved into a family of nations that will truly serve mankind.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

Seven (7) years ago, it was done... but only selected participants knew the values of the historical endeavors. And after seven (7) long years, I only now realized that it is my duty to disseminate to the Filipino people especially the Cavitenos that there exist a time capsule that contained important and memorable events that transpired in the City of Cavite, but there’s an old quotation saying, “it’s better late than never”, so, I decided to move on and do what I know is my obligation to our inhabitants, just like any interested individual, for it is also their right to inform everybody, for anything they valued and appreciated, and that would benefited each and every peace loving Caviteno, more particularly the young generation.

The concept started when we were researching good materials to be incorporated to our souvenir program in connection with the Bagong Buhay Lodge centennial commemoration on August 11, 2007. I was then at home, and have just finished doing some household chores when I saw an old issue of Cabletow, official organ of the Grand Lodge of the Philippines Volume 75, No. 5 dated January-February 1999.

The front and back covers shows the Trece Martires de Bagumbayan Marker located at the Japanese Garden, Luneta, Manila. The inside front cover are the Markers of the Trece Martires de Bagumbayan and the Message of MW Enrique L. Locsin Centennial Grand Master. On the inside back cover are photos taken during the Unveiling Ceremony.

For a moment, I was stunned and speechless, and something cherish in my mind, that the then City Mayor Timoteo O. Encarnacion, Jr. issued Executive Order No. 7 dated October 27, 1999 creating a Millennium Time Capsule, Marker and Perpetuation Committee who are task to research, collate and record significant events, great personalities, trivia and other related subject matters that transpired and emerged in Cavite City for the past 1,000 years.

The enormous tasked was assigned to me and chaired the Committee. Together with the members, namely Ms. Jocelyn dela Rosa, City Librarian; Ms. Remedios Ordonez, retired school teacher and member Cavite City Historical Committee and City Tourism Council; Mr. Leon Young Jr. member Cavite City Historical Committee; and Mr. Victor Rufin, Executive Secretary to the City Mayor; researched and prepared the Tagalog-English-Spanish Dictionary, biography of Cavite patriots, great personalities and trivia; collected important materials pertaining to the history of Cavite City, the City’s Great Seal, the City Hymn, and the City March, and other significant events and related subject matters that transpired and emerged in Cavite City for the past one thousand (1,000) years while Architect Noelito Atangan of the City Engineer’s Office designed the time capsule and marker; and Ms. Nora Buenaventura, and Rosemarie Basuil, Assistant Secretary and Stenographic Reporter III, respectively of the City Council assisted in compiling the records.

We didn’t waste our time, upon received of the gargantuan order, we immediately conducted an intensive and exhaustive research and interviews. We have to work hard even in the wee hours to finish our assignment on time, for we have a time table, the ceremony was scheduled come January 1, 2000.

The mission was very interesting, you do research, you gain more knowledge, you conduct interviews, you meet nice people, and most importantly was the wholehearted support extended by the members coming from different offices in the City Government. In just two (2) months of being together, camaraderie born-out amongst us, the respect for each and everyone was crystal clear of signified intention to spread the importance of City history and be form part of it with noble cause.

It was also worthy of remembering the assistance of City’s local historian, some individuals, organizations and associations in their way of extending contributions and donations, like the collection of poems, essays, riddles, short stories, the Holy Bible, rosary, instructions on how to play old Filipino or childhood games like “patintero, tumbang preso, piko, sipa, sungka, and even including a rubber bond with a stick of “walis tingting”, names of residents of the City as of 1999, list of registered voters, total number of population, recipes of Tagalog and Chavacano viands, old and new pictures of government and private buildings, memorable markers, historical and educational books authored by different personalities, and many others; and of course the food and drinks for our snacks or lunch with corresponding thoughtfulness and encouragement.

It was at this juncture, when I said to myself, “Why not include the history of Masonry and Lodges in Cavite City?” It’s an open book that Masonry played a vital role during the Spanish, American, Japanese, and even in the modern period. There were many prominent personalities who contributed in the history of the City that were members of Cavite Lodge No. 2, Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 17 (now Lodge No. 4) and La Naval Lodge No. 269 (now Lodge No. 7), all found in Cavite City.

With this in mind, coupled with noble intention to recognize the exemplary, meritorious and outstanding achievements and contributions of the brethren to the Lodge and Masonry as well as to the City of Cavite and its inhabitants, I began to collate Masonic materials, but because of time constraint, I wasn’t able to collect much. The best thing I can do was to gather available Masonic emblems, decals and stickers and referred to Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 17 (now Lodge No. 4 under the jurisdiction of the Most Worshipful Independent Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippine Islands), souvenir programs, trusted and confident with the references, sources, written and edited by WB Herminigildo Perez Santos PM (1945-1946) of Bagong Buhay Lodge and WB Adriano Anastacio, Jr. PM of La Naval Lodge; and with my little contribution, we were able to finish a brief history of Freemasonry in the Philippines, and so with the Lodges in the City.

The celebration of “New Year” was something to remember because we experienced the merriment at the Mayor Julian C. Medina, Jr. Hall at the second floor of the City Hall, and while the parents, children and love ones were praying together at home, and having their “media noche” (midnight snacks), others were celebrating with the traditional lightings of firecrackers, the playing of loud music, homemade trumpets, drums, sirens, etc., and the different voices heard at the top of their “viva voca”, dancing and greetings each other with happy new year, we were inside the hall celebrating with our computer sets, until the job was finally done. It’s already 6:00 A.M., we’re almost exhausted after that long vigorous moment, after those labors and sacrifices, and we went downstairs directly to Samonte Park, and with sweet smiles turned over the big volumes of documentary materials to Mayor Encarnacion. Having accomplished the biggest tasked we ever had, we shook hands and hugged each others. We were also congratulated and greeted by every one for a job well done. We were very proud of ourselves for being a part of a noble cause.

On that momentous day of January 1, 2000, in a simple and solemn ceremonies, the Cavite City Millennium Time Capsule and Marker was officially installed at the heart of Samonte Park, Cavite City fronting the City Hall at exactly 6:21 A.M. (first sunrise) signifying the end of the 2nd Millennium and the beginning of the 3rd Millennium.

The preservation and immortalization of the contents of the Millennium Time Capsule and Marker are dedicated to the future generation of Cavitenos, in order for them to know, learn and appreciate the role played by Cavite City in ancient and modern times.

The installation of the Millennium Time Capsule and Marker is very memorable for it is the “First Historical Time Capsule and Marker” ever installed in the City of Cavite, only to be opened up to view its contents at the end of the 3rd Millennium and the beginning of the 4th Millennium, another 1,000 years of significant achievements.

“Under Resolution No. 04-081 dated September 6, 2004, the Millennium Time Capsule and Marker officially installed on January 1, 2000 at the heart of Samonte Park, Cavite City was recognized as one of the historical sites in the City of Cavite”

The preservation and immortalization of the Millennium Time Capsule and Marker is the brainchild of lawyer/historian former City Mayor Timoteo O. Encarnacion, Jr. dedicated to the future generation.

To the former City Mayor of Cavite City, Atty. Timoteo O. Encarnacion, Jr, the pride of the Cavitenos, a million thanks for leading the preservation and immortalization of the historic past.

To the Millennium Time Capsule, Marker and Perpetuation Committee members, my sincerest gratitude and commendation for a job well done.

To the brethren, it’s an honor to be of service to the Lodge in particular and Freemasonry in general.

Finally, the forgotten documentation, publication, posting and announcement of the installation of the Millennium Time Capsule and Marker on January 1, 2000 at the heart of Samonte Park, Cavite City signifying the end of the 2nd Millennium and the beginning of the 3rd Millennium is now a fulfilled obligation and form part of the manuscripts of history as a source and for references, dedicated to the future generation, to the Cavitenos living in foreign countries, friends, guests from other places, and nearby municipalities, and of course to brother Masons withersoever dispersed.

A Journey: IGLPI First Anniversary

On September 9th a year ago, as a result of various emails exchanged with our Brethren mainly in pinoymasons eGroup created by Brother Willy Francia, moderated by WB Amor Mangosing, WB Jay Orolfo and Bro Jerry Azurin, I patched together the body of the thoughts and called it “Cavite Masons.” The main issue this writer was wondering about was the reasons why some selected Brothers were expelled and the subject of edicts whereby listed “names are to be erased from Masonic records forever” or something to that effect. Noting the time difference and coincidence, the day the article was composed was the day the Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands was formally announced.

It is unnecessary to recapitulate the travel over rough and rugged road toward the place where the IGLPI now stand under the able leadership of the MW Jaime Bantolo and assisted by numerous unnamed Brethren who also shared the experience. The journey is not yet over but rather just started, there are more work to be done, cornerstones to be laid, arches to support and stones awaiting the workmen in the quarry. Though we look for the time, when our spirit will finally rest onboard that Ark anchored within the protected harbor, let us not forget – in the words of our esteemed Brother Alfred Ferrer of Malinaw Lodge No. 25 of San Pablo City , “it is the journey that counts.” It is the journey that makes who we are, not the goal we achieved. It is an endeavor that will test how much Lessons in Freemasonry each one of us learned during the years. A test of not how much power and prestige we accumulated on our way to the purple of the Fraternity but of much we protected our lambskin apron from being soiled on our way to a “more noble cause.” Standing for what we believed, despite what others might think---what kind of Mason we became. It is my humble wish to the visionaries of IGLPI to be vigilant at the time of burning oil in the middle of the night that it is the travel and not the destination that will make lasting legacy of each man and the institution they are building.

With all my sincerity, I thank the Brethren of IGLPI for allowing me to be a part of a great journey. It is indeed a great pleasure and privilege to be invited to IGLPI historic event. With my utmost regret, I would like to ask your forgiveness as your humble brother cannot be of your service due to personal and professional reasons. I am certain that I will miss the warm camaraderie of the Brethren of IGLPI and hearing the wisdom from the message of your speakers. Without criterion, it is my personal loss for not being able to be a part of your celebration. I would like to ask your indulgence to please send my deepest apology to the Grand Master, the Brethren of IGLPI, and in my behalf to "extend my right hand in token of continuance of friendship and Brotherly Love" to our Brothers of the Craft regardless of their jurisdiction.

A History of Philippine Masonry

Bro Ben Apacible reported the visit of the Deputy Grand Master of the Gran Oriente Espanol/Grand Lodge of Spain in the Philippines last month in search of the Grand Lodge which they patented in 1924.

Our research showed that the 27 lodges under the Gran Logia Regional de Filipinas , under the Gran Oriente Espanol, BROKE OFF and AFFILIATED with the Americans - Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands with their 10 lodges in 1917 under the reason of FUSION.

When the FUSION did not happen, the lodges REVERTED back to the Gran Oriente Espanol.

In 1924, a DISPUTE aroused between the Grand Master of the Gran Logia Regional de Filipinas and the Grand Delegate of the Gran Oriente Espanol. This dispute resulted to the formation of two (2) Grand Lodges , namely : the Supremo Consejo del Grado 33 Para Filipinas , which BROKE OFF, and the Gran Logia Soberana del Archipelago Filipinas.

In 1924, the Gran Oriente Espanol granted a Patent to the Gran Logia Soberana del Archipelago Filipinas. This Grand Lodge has dwindled reportedly to only one (1) lodge located in Manila. This Grand Lodge is NOT recognized by the GLPI / GLP.

It is interesting to note that BREAKING OFF is an INDEPENDENT ACT. The same is true for affiliating. What a history of Philippine Masonry. For Masonic education of Filipino Masons. Please pass.


After reading a lot of masonic history, it can be concluded that all Grand Lodges were created by INDEPENDENT ACTS of the Lodges.

Bro Ben had already written about the history of the Grand Lodge of Japan which BROKE OFF from the GLP. There is the history of the United Grand Lodge of the Philippines (UGLP) of Leyte-Samar which BROKE OFF from the GLP. the Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands (IGLPI) which BROKE OFF from the GLP, the Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands (GLPI) which BROKE OFF from the Grand Lodge of California.

On April 4, 1888, some 160 Lodge representatives met for the purpose of merging the Gran Oriente Nacional with the Gran Oriente de Espana. The result was a new Grand Lodge to be known as Grande Oriente Nacional de Espana. In the election, the Viscount of Ros, Alfredo Vega was elected Grand Commander.

MIGUEL MORAYTA BROKE OFF from the newly organized Grande Oriente Nacional de Espana, airing charges that the election was FRAUDULENT.

With over 90 Lodges, he organized the GRAN ORIENTE ESPANOL on January 9, 1889 with a goal of actively propagating Masonry in the Philippines.

What Masonic history teaches us is that GRAND LODGES COULD BE CREATED WITHOUT PERMISSION OF ANYBODY...

Brethren Greetings!

I have read so many postings on events that affected our fraternity. As early as February this year, I posted in egroups and sent to individual Masons my compilation of "Recent Events in Philippine Masonry" and which was later found in Yahoo and Google Search. Some brethren found this compilation too lengthy to read.

I am once again breaking my silence on these issues and attaching only the "meat" of my paper in this email which will save the brethren much of their time in reading the entire document.. As I have said before, I only presented facts, documents and events from December 2005 to January 23, 2007 and I leave it up to the reader or researcher to make his own conclusion(s).

The wisdom and insight of VW Raul S. A. Laman regarding the customs and traditions of the craft is greatly appreciated. Too bad it came out a little late for the ANCOM... but surely is never late for the enlightenment of the brethren. You see until now, roughly 2 years from the establishment of the IGLPI, many are still in the dark of what has happened to Cavite, and are instructed or told to treat masons of the IGLPI as clandestine. A true mason will know the definition of a clandestine mason while a fool will believe with hearsays and propaganda. In truth, many did join the IGLPI due to their dismay on how the issue and crisis was treated by the GM.

Sa bahay, Kapag ang iyong mga anak ay may gustong sabihin na hinaing o hinanakit, What a real father will do ay pakinggan at intindihin ang nararamdaman ng mga anak nya, at piliting gawan ng nararapat na solusyon. Hindi ang umiwas sa usapin at itakwil sila na parang bale wala lang ng hindi man lang binigyan ng pagkakataon marinig ang punto debista. Ganun kasimple ang kaso ng Cavite.

In a growing masonic district, in any jurisdiction, It is essential that harmony be preserved at outmost importance, harmony being the strenght of all societies especially of ours. And in this consideration, men has deviced a way as to how this will be preserved. As in many districts in the country, Cavite chose to have a gentlemen's agreement so as to keep the district in harmony and undivided.

Ganun na lamang ang pagpapahalaga ng mga Mason sa Cavite sa iniingatang pagkakaisa at kapayapaan na ipinaglaban nitong hindi mahati ang distrito sa ano pa mang kadahilanan. Papayag lamang daw na mahati ang distrito sa dalawa o ilan man kung mismong ang probinsya na ng Cavite ang mahahati. Ang gentlemen's agreement na ito ang nagpatahimik sa distrito sa loob ng mahigit dalawang dekada, only to be destabilized by someone from the outside of the district.

Now again this maybe moot and academic as the verdict had been already laid down last ANCOM. We are moving on and forward. As I've said, future generations of masons will judge us as on how we treated the issue. But indeed it is nice to hear that not all brethren were convinced of the validity of the decision and commending them for their resolve and the strenght of their character as a man and mason. Masonic injustices may have prevailed now, but not for long. For brethren will gradually realize, hopefully sooner than later, that there will never be no other tenets more powerful and enduring than brotherly love, relief, and truth.

IGLPI Joins 109th Independence Day Celebrations

The Most Worshipful Independent Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippine Islands (IGLPI) joined the 109th Independence Day Celebrations at Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 2007. The Grand Master, MW Jaime V Bantolo with his Deputy Grand Master RW Nicolas Ricafrente, the Senior Grand Warden RW Manuel Carranza Jr, the Junior Grand Warden RW Joseph Capuyan, together with other Grand Line Officers, District Officers, and the Officers and members of 8 Lodges under its grand jurisdiction numbering more than 60 MM paraded from vicinity Panamitan, Kawit to the President General Brother Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine for the celebrations.( June 12 was not declared a holiday).

The IGLPI contingent was led by the Grand Marshall thence the Grand Lodge streamers, lodges standards and banners; thence the Grand Officers and followed by the rest of the Lodge members. Immediately following was the contingent of the Knights of Columbus, thence the members of the Grand Logia Regional de Filipinas of the Grand Oriente Espanol; and thence the contingent from the GLP. The IGLPI contingent occupied almost half of the right front seats facing the shrine mot just for better view but for significant importance attached to Bro Emilio Aguinaldo who was the first WM of Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Lodge Nr 31 and now renumbered No 5 under the IGLPI.

The ceremonies were graced by the presence of Vice President Noli de Castro, Congressman Joseph Emilio Aguinaldo Abaya, Governor Ayong Maliksi of Cavite, Mayor Brother Hit Poblete of Kawit ( EAM Lodge Nr 5 IGLPI ), former Prime Minister Bro Cesar Virata ( Jacobo Zobel Lodge Nr 202 ), local government officials, church dignitaries, government institutions, NGOs, the Aguinaldo clan, the military and police including the Provincial Commander Bro Fidel Posadasf ( Jose Rizal Lodge Nr 270 ).

The IGLPI, the GLRF, and GLP rubbed elbows and got along fine greeting each other and conversing of other matters than masonry. MW Jim Bantolo shooked hands and greeted RW Pacifico Aniag and DDGM VW Delfin Narvaez of the GLP.

Seventeen (17) IGLPI members were accredited with VIP invitations and stickers and joined the dignitaries inside the Shrine for the activities and the breakfast. The other members were provided breakfast at the Aguinaldo Lodge Nr 5 temple nearby.

I sense a strong feeling of harmony and brotherhood still prevailing especially from among those of long acquiantances in the fraternity. I could still feel a sense of animosity from among those who felt hurt with the creation of the IGLPI. Let time heal wounds.

Re: Neutrality and Harmony

Was it former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher who said that , "we should not stand on the middle of the road, the vehicles on both side will run us down...". Days prior to and during the EDSA Revolution of 1986, our civilian friends kept on telling us to take sides as to stay neutral will not make us a hero. Only the winning side will declare you a hero. The winning side is the side of truth, of justice, of good, of freedeom.

When elders told us to wait out the term of GM YU, it was to admit defeat for truth, for justice, for freedom, for morality. It was to tolerate his acts and suffer in silence. It was to take a vacation from Freemasonry, from friends and brothers, from meetings, from conferrals and rituals. It was to see our brothers suffer the injustice. It was to suffer humiliation from those who are not in fidelity to a covenant.It was to accept the corruption of rules. It was to tolerate unworthiness and accept unqualified leaders. It was to allow the reforms to go to naught.It was to let the fraternity slide down from the original aims of Masonry.It was to accept Masonic Doctrinal Adulteration.

We had a rough and rugged journey in the IGLPI with a despidida of EDICTS 232 and follow on Orders from the Appendant Bodies and other Suspension Orders following our wake so that " no more remembrance maybe had of us..." We are now sailing with fair winds and following seas. We can meet each other " on the level" .Under different Grand Lodges we will remain as BROTHERS. Let it be a good start. From here, we will have to redraw new designs in the trestleboard against DICTATORSHIP, INJUSTICE, IMMORALITY, UNTRUTH. Later we may navigate in the same waters

ONLY the Grand Lodge can ASSERT its SUPREME authority over the acts of the GM YU. May the GLP UPRIGHT itself and protect Masonic MORALITY, JUSTICE, TRUTH, BROTHERLY LOVE .May your ANCOM enshrine the true Masonry we seek of. We admire the many Masons who stand up and be recognized as the true defenders of Masonic Morality.

By the way will ANCOM 2007 accredit the GLP GM YU created phantom Clandestine lodges ( those lodges WITHOUT Charters; whose leaders are SFND, expelled. delisted, absentees; meeting elsewhere; doing doctrinal anomalies and irregular rituals ) ?

Pintong Bato Lodge NR 9 is Now Open

ON RECENT EVENTS IN PHILIPPINE MASONRY
( Series Nr 3 )

The first Volume of Recent Events in Philippine Masonry was documented by VW Ben Apacible and duly published in various web –sites or blog-spots. Series Nr 2 was posted last April 1, 2007 documenting the various assault or illegal raids by GLP GM YU supported phantom lodges to occupy the temples of IGLPI Lodges. This is the 3rd series on the same headline to further report on what is happening to Freemasonry in Cavite.

The Bacoor Masonic Temple Association Inc organized under existing Philippine Laws and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on October 08, 1951, is the registered OWNER of the 390 square meter lot and all properties therein under a TCT Nr R-040 of the Registry of Deeds , Cavite. The property was used by Pintong Bato Lodge Nr 51 for its meetings. It was also used for sometime by Molino Lodge Nr 352, Dasmarinas Lodge Nr 346, and the local Order of the Eastern Star.

Last December 09, 2006, Pintong Bato Lodge Nr 51 held its mandated annual election of officers during the December Stated Meeting of all Lodges. Elected officers were: WM Lamberto Binuncal, Sr Warden Jerry Murillo, Jr Warden Eleuterio Ulatan.. Unfortunately, DDGM Mario Marasigan FALSELY ACCUSED the elected officers to be attending the functions and activities of the IGLPI and reported them to the GLP GM YU who, WITHOUT DUE PROCESS immediately issued on December 21, 2006 EDICT 232C declaring them and many others as “clandestine masons” and deprived them of their lawfully elected positions. If you recall, the outgoing WM Erwin Punzalan, having been rebuffed in the election, declared earlier that those officers WILL NEVER BE INSTALLED. True enough, his boast proved true. Hence, on December 22, 2006 many members of the Lodge voted in a Meeting to sign and approved a Lodge Resolution to SEVERE their loyalty to the GLP and on January 05, 2007, JOINED the IGLPI because of the INJUSTICE.

The day before on January 04, 2007, elements of GLP masons broke the lock of the temple, search negatively for the lodge charter, took the lodge bible and tylers book and padlocked the temple with the assistance of PNP SWAT and local police. The following day, on January 05, 2007, Pintong Bato Lodge who now joined the IGLPI, broke the padlock and opened the Lodge for the purpose of holding the IGLPI SPECIAL ASSEMBLY in order to affiliate the Lodge to IGLPI. A confidential report was texted that a company of SWAT PNP in the province was ALERTED to be DEPLOYED to Bacoor because of the happenings at the temple. The following day January 06, 2007, elements of the remnants of Pintong Bato lodge who DID NOT join the IGLPI, broke the padlocks, met to elect new lodge officers IN THE ABSENCE of the CHARTER, and posted PRIVATE SECURITY GUARDS as TYLERS to prevent the entry of Pintong Bato Lodge Nr 9 members.

Peacefully and patiently, majority of the members of the Bacoor Masonic Temple Association Inc, who are now affiliated with Pintong Bato Lodge Nr 9 went to Court and filed a Civil Case for Injunction and Damages against the other group. Hearings were done in March, April, and May. 2007. There were delays caused by the process of finding amicable settlement, by filing of restraining orders and for inhibition of the judge. After resolving them and finding NO amicable settlement available, the trial moved on and eventually, the judge ruled and ordered on June 06, 2007 a Writ of Preliminary Injunction be issued:
1. Enjoining the defendants (the GLP phantom lodge) and/or other persons under their command or behalf from performing acts of exclusive ownership, possession and use of the properties of Bacoor Masonic Temple Association Inc… and,
2. Enjoining defendants to immediately restore plaintiffs to their right to use and manage the aforesaid properties


On June 07 and 08, 2007, the Sheriff of the Court served the Court Orders to the plaintiffs and the defendants. With the assistance of the local PNP police and the local Barangay officers, the Court Order was also served by the Sheriff to the Private Security Guards guarding and preventing MM of the IGLPI from entering the premises. The armed Security Guard was refusing the Court Order. The presence of the Local PNP police and Barangay officials prevented any untoward incidents. To manifest ownership, members of the Association destroyed the old padlocks, allowed the Security Guard to leave unmolested, and then secured the place.

By Sunday, June 10, 2007, the WM Bert Binuncal and SW Jerry Murillo announced that Pintong Bato Lodge Nr 9 is NOW OPEN.

I appreciate the concern of the PNP on peace and order conditions in Cavite particularly on the illegal assault or raid upon the temples of IGLPI WITHOUT the PRESENTATION of any COURT ORDER by the phantom lodge members. Since they REMAINED UNINVESTIGATED or UNPUNISHED by the GLP for their UNMASONIC ACTs, we have no recourse but to GO TO COURT.
