Why Not

Why only one Grand Lodge can exist in the Philippines? Why not? Removing the prejudicial thinking of the motive, be it may imagine or reality, Freemasonry spread around the world not because a Grand Lodge “authorized” the creation of another Grand Lodge but because three or more Lodges banded together and formed their own. Neither Modern nor Ancient Grand Lodges of England authorizes the creation of Grand Lodge of New York or Pennsylvania or California to form Nevada. Individual Lodges warranted by either Grand Lodge of England formed their own Grand Lodge due to their own reasons. Even Spain at one time had two Grand Lodges until both sides settled their differences and merged into one. Needless to say the result of union of Ancients and Modern to become United Grand Lodge of England. If we look back to the history of Grand Lodge of Japan, GLP’s reaction was not something we could be proud of.

Now how about if the three Lodges in Guam decided to form the Grand Lodge of Micronesia or Guam, would GLP declare our Brethren from Guam clandestine too? Or should GLP be a proud parent of a new born GL? Instead of putting roadblocks, GLP could be an example of how a good and caring parent would act watching his offspring takes it's baby step toward maturity.

Why Not?

Root Cause and Corrective Action re: IGLPI

The following is the RCCA that leads to the formation of IGLPI. This is an eye opener for those who are interested in viewing both side of the story and for Brethren who understand the importance of equilibrium in our lives.

"In 2003, many brethren were slighted when they learned about the circulation of an offer by a prospective candidate for Junior Grand Warden to foot the bill for plane tickets to the venue of the scheduled Grand Lodge of the Philippines Annual Communications. This tact was never done before. Cavite Masons were known for their independence and free choice during elections. To the extent of being labeled disunited, even nominees from Cavite were not always supported by Cavite Masons. The blatant attempt to gain support with the use of favors was considered an affront to their sensibilities and adherence to age -old tenets. Therefore, in the exercise of their lawful rights and duty, Cavite brethren filed an electioneering case against the prospective nominee.

The 2003 annual election for Junior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of the Philippines was marked with unprecedented events. When the prospective nominee did not land in the short list of five, the electioneering case was declared moot and academic. But in an unprecedented decision of the Past Grand Masters' selection board, alternate nominees were named. The strangest development was when all five principal nominees suddenly withdrew from the race. Naturally, the two succeeding alternate nominees became the only strong contenders. The nominee charged of electioneering by the Cavite brethren won. Three years later in 2006, he became the Grand Master."

Views and Information

The Filipino Masons did not get and were not given a chance to put up their own Grand Lodge because of their subservience to Spain. They saw their chance after the revolution but their republic was short lived because of the invasion by the Americans. When Spain ceded the country to the U.S. all hopes were lost. American Masons followed the American doctrine of ownership of war spoils and claimed the Philippines as their own territory.

It is unfortunate that GLP continues to subscribe to the idea of exclusive territorial jurisdiction which was not observed during the Spanish regime in the country. In fact this doctrine imbedded in the Constitution was purely an American imposition.

About Phil. Masonic History

“Originally attached to the Grand Lodge of Spain - the Philippine archipelago is a former colony of Spain - the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of The Philippines became autonomous on 19 December 1912.”

I thank the WB for his research however, allow me to adjust his article and hopefully fill in some void between. The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines (GLP) was never been “attached to the Grand Lodge of Spain.” In order to make a balance presentation, the following materials were taken from history pages of two Lodges under the GLP, an equal number from Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands (IGLPI) and a Lodge under Gran Logia Nacional de Filipinas (GLNF). Furthermore, a short quote from official statements from both Grand Lodges.

What to Do with GLP Edicts 232

Brothers in Freemasonry,

There are so many tales about meetings and communications between and among Brothers of different Grand Lodge affiliations. There is the true feeling of brotherly love. There were many stories of relief acts , aid and assistance. Sometimes, both smiled after knowing each other's Grand Lodge affiliation. Very few indeed, ever truly invoke the Edicts - to give a wall between Brothers. Hence this article.

Bro Jim Bantolo

WHAT TO DO WITH GLP EDICTS 232s?

At the rate, violations of GLP Edicts 232s are being done, the Edicts LOST its FORCE and EFFECTIVENESS. The reason - - - it is UNJUST, a DOCTRINAL ANOMALY, and UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

So what will GLP do with the VIOLATORs? MORE Edicts 232s !!!

So many Masons here and based abroad, continue to DISREGARD the Edicts of PGM YU despite its affirmation by ANCOM 2007. Masons continue to MEET IGLPI brethrens ON THE LEVEL and vice-versa.

What a beautiful expression of BROTHERLY LOVE and JUSTICE.

On about several occasions, MW Jimmy Gonzales, GM GLP had found opportunities to sit down, talked with IGLPI brethrens; or even sought opportunities for IGLPI members to seek or arrange a PRIVATE meeting with IGLPI members. They did and had talked. These were all reported to the IGLPI hierarchy. IGLPI does not prohibit its members to communicate with other duly made MM of duly constituted lodges so long as they meet on the LEVEL as MASONS should MEET.

Would you like to know what transpired? Or what GM Gonzales intend to do to the IGLPI members and their lodges? after a target date?

KULANG pa ba ang EDICT 232s na parusa? Anymore UNMASONIC CONDUCT? Are we leading to harmony? unity? peace? dialogue? With two or more Grand Lodges existing !

May there be better opportunities with VWB Ben as emissary.

NANDITO lang po kami Kuya MW Gonzales. Maari nyo kaming kausapin kung ang turing po ninyo sa amin ay MASON.

What I felt sad is the “predatory” acts of trying to convince, by any and all means including oppression, intimidation, promise of rewards, promotion, business deals, loss of opportunities/jobs/deals , our members like those among the businessmen, police, soldiers, judiciary, to RETURN kuno back to the GLP, by signing that they did not FREELY or VOLUNTARILY (signed a lodge resolution for the lodge to- is omitted) joined or formed the IGLPI. Thereafter they shall be RESTORED to the GLP. What a process indeed?- to force IGLPI members to tell LIES!!!

But why the singular effort of GM Gonzales, as assisted by PGM Bunda, the Chairman of the Committee on Cavite Affairs, to really win back our members? Thence, to restore them back to membership to the PGM YU supported “phantom clandestine lodges”. What a gross Masonic anomaly ! Bakit? Wala na ba silang members?

We are aware that the “phantom clandestine lodges” are disintegrating. Hence the aggressive effort???

Perhaps, this is related to his speech at the PMAAI Concention in Los Angeles, that there are a thousand letters from IGLPI members who want to return back to GLP??? Which he cannot substantiate!!! Hence the all-out effort!!! Or are there more serious reasons?

The last time MWB Juan Nabong PGM GLP, attended the ANCOM of the Gran Logia Nacional de Filipinas, as Guest of Honor, he was immediately CENSURED by the PGMs. He was just seeking to find a window of harmony. What a failed opportunity?

We have FAITH in our members. Continue to be BRAVE. But be watchful as you should always meet masons on the LEVEL, act by the PLUMB and part by the SQUARE.

See you all on our 2nd Grand Assembly where we will ratify our various Codes of our democratic system of governance and lodge empowerment; of our member-friendly and lodge supportive codes; of our respect to the dignity and honor of men; of their rights to justice.

Re: Conference of Grand Masters of Masons in North America

Dear Brethren,

We are aware of this report from the Conference of Grand Masters in North America. The Report pertains to the formation of the United Grand Lodge of the Philippines last July 8, 2006 in Tacloban, Leyte Philippines where 9 lodges from Leyte and Samar BROKE away for many reasons cited. Elected was MW Ed ward Chua as Grand Master These Lodges nor their members were NOT declared "clandestine" by the GLP.

The Report does NOT refer to the IGLPI.

TRUTH is a principal tenet of Freemasonry. May Brotherly Love prevail.

Please pass to all concerned Filipino Masons withersoever dispersed Thanks.

THE RECOLLECTIONS OF 1906, 1907, 1912, 1917, 2006 AND THE FINALE 2007

On September 4, 1906, founders of the Lodge adopted a resolution to form Bagong Buhay Lodge; on September 16, 1906, Bagong Buhay Lodge UD elected and installed its first Lodge officers; on August 11, 1907, Bagong Buhay Lodge was officially constituted. It was chartered and numbered Lodge No. 291 under the jurisdiction of Gran Oriente Espanol and formally installed its officers; in 1912, the Lodge was re-chartered and renumbered to Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 17 under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands; on February 13, 1917, the Lodge was officially constituted and started to be referred as Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 17 under the unified Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands and became directly under the supervision of American Masons.

After almost 89 years (February 13, 1917 – September 9, 2006) of harmonious relationship, Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 17 with heavy hearts, had to break ties with the Grand Lodge of the Philippines, but the friendship or amity remains forever.

On September 10, 2006, Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 17, acting on resolution adopted in a regular stated meeting, declared its independence from the Grand Lodge of the Philippines and joined the regularly, legally and duly constituted Most Worshipful Independent Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippine Islands (IGLPI), re-chartered and renumbered to Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 under the jurisdiction of the IGLPI together with six (6) other century old and very old Lodges in the Province of Cavite, Republic of the Philippines, namely: Cavite Lodge No. 2 (retained its number, constituted on October 18, 1902); Pilar Lodge No. 3 (formerly No. 15, constituted on June 5, 1894); Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Lodge No. 5 (formerly No. 31, constituted on December 21, 1915); Bagong Ilaw Lodge No. 6 (formerly No. 97, constituted on January 27, 1925); La Naval Lodge No. 7 (formerly No. 269, constituted on January 20, 1984); and Mendez-Nunez Lodge No. 8 (formerly No. 316, constituted on May 31, 1997); and later followed by Pintong Bato Lodge No. 9 (formerly No. 51, constituted on February 15, 1919) which was re-chartered and renumbered on January 5, 2007 during the Special Grand Assembly of the IGLPI.

The first candidates of Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 after the “Declaration of Independence and Constitution of the IGLPI”, despite the worrying situation but pursued their noble intentions to join the craft, were: Bro. Joseph Camato Macaraig and Bro. Picollo Chester M. Bulanhagui. They were initiated Entered Apprentice Masons on October 31, 2006, passed to the degree of Fellowcraft Masons on November 24, 2006 and raised to the sublime degree of Master Masons on December 6, 2006.

With the theme, “A Fresh Start for True Masonry”, Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 under the jurisdiction of the IGLPI, moves on and march forward, thus created and adopted three (3) resolutions with the concepts of recognizing the exemplary and outstanding performances and contributions of the brethren to the Lodge and Freemasonry as well as to the community and its inhabitants, bringing the brethren new and fresh ideas, and maintaining brotherly love, relief and truth:

RESOLUTION NO. 4, SERIES OF 2007 “A resolution creating the Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 F & A M Awards and approving and adopting the guidelines and criteria for the award hereto attached, and to bestow the Worshipful Master the authority to present and award to Master Masons in good standing who and which distinguished and excelled themselves by exemplary, meritorious and outstanding achievements or services rendered to the Lodge and Freemasonry as well as to the Community and its Inhabitants both in their public and private lives, and to non-Masons, either by an individual, group or associations who unselfishly rendered worthy contributions to member Master Masons, to the Lodge in particular and Freemasonry in general”

The important event of celebrating the 100 years existence of Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 became more memorable when the affair was graced by the presence of the brethren under the jurisdiction of Gran Logia Nacional de Filipinas led by its Grand Master, Most Worshipful Victor Valdez.

There were about two hundred twenty five (225) members, sisters and guests attended the successful affair who also participated in the fellowship, ballroom dancing and raffles that went to the wee hours.

As of December 2006, Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 had member Master Masons of 202; Dual Members 3; and Life Members by Longevity 80 with a total strength of 285 Master Masons in good standing (Philippines and Foreign Countries).

Through the years, it has remained steadfast to its chosen name “New Life”. It has honorably and faithfully discharged its duties to the Fraternity and maintained its prestige and good name by adhering to the ancient landmarks of the institution.

New members come. Old members laid down their working tools. Others simply fade way. But Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 will stand like a beacon light, diffusing its rays to light up the part of that grand ideal of establishing a Universal League of Mankind under the Fatherhood of GOD.

“Despite the long, rough and rugged journey, the Lodge moves on, and brethren march forward”

A CENTURY TO REMEMBER

A CENTURY TO REMEMBER

(Speech of MW BANTOLO, GM IGLPI on the 100th Anniversary of Bagong Buhay Lodge on August 11, 2007)

Fraternal Greetings !!!

BAGONG BUHAY Lodge was called the “LODGE OF THE REVOLUTION”, as viewed from historical perspectives according to WB Abelardo P Mojica, of the GLP, a past editor of the Cabletow What could be the reasons to say so?

Perhaps it was because, the leaders of the Lodge were once imprisoned by the Spaniards at Fort Santiago for their membership in the Katipunan
Perhaps it was because its members and leaders were once imprisoned by the Spaniards for their membership in Masonry,
Perhaps it was because its members and leaders fought the Spaniards in the Philippine-Spanish War of Independence
Perhaps it was because its members and leaders fought the Americans in the Philippine American War
Perhaps because its members and leaders, decided that the Lodge secede from the Gran Oriente Espanol and affiliated or joined the American Grand lodge of the Philippine Islands
Perhaps it was because, its members and leaders decided for the Lodge to secede from the Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands and form the Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands
Perhaps it was because its member and leaders joined the EDSA Revolution to oust a dictator.
Perhaps it was because its members and leaders decided to be free from the dictatorship of its Grand Master and sought refuge in a democratic constitution of a new Grand Lodge.

Truly, the Bagong Buhay Lodge is aptly called a “Lodge of the Revolution”; a revolution from colonizers, a revolution from oppressors, a revolution from invaders, a revolution from tyrants, a revolution from dictators, a revolution from injustice, a revolution from ignorance, a revolution from hunger.

WB Jose Agriosola Mariano Reyes, the Lodge 1st Worshipful Master, was a patriot. He was among those early implicated in the propaganda and revolutionary movement. He was among those twenty seven (27) imprisoned with Dr Jose Rizal in Fort Santiago for being also Masons. He was among those seven (7) who were later released and resumed his Masonic activities.

WB Ladislao Nocon Diwa, a member of Sinukuan Lodge No 272, was one of the founders of Katipunan, and one of the Triangle of Bonifacio-Plata-Diwa. He was imprisoned in Fort Santiago and later released as part of the negotiations of the Pact of the Biac na Bato, He fought against the Spaniards and later against the Americans. He was the first elected Civil Governor of the Province of Cavite

MW Rafael Palma was raised in Bagong Buhay Lodge and became the GLP Grand Master in 1920. A Congressman, a Senator, a President of the University of the Philippines. He was active in the quest for Philippine Independence from the Americans.

The Lodge hosted the Bagum Buhay Elementary School for many decades in its ground floor. Many members had fond memories of their school days. It was the Lodge important contribution to society – that of education.

The Lodge sponsored many FEEDING PROGRAMS for school children among the elementary schools in Cavite City. It was the Lodge humble contribution – the war against hunger and malnutrition.

The Lodge sponsored several medical-dental civic programs to indigent communities in the city. It was the Lodge contribution - the war against sickness.

The Lodge sponsored several out-of-school training programs among the prisoners in the City Jail. It was the Lodge contribution – to uplift the masses in skills training- the war against unemployment.

The Lodge sponsored several seminars on the evils of illegal drugs, It was the Lodge contribution against – the menace of illegal drugs; a scourge of society

The Lodge was originally constituted under the Gran Logia Regional de Filipinas of the Gran Oriente Espanol as Bagong Buhay Lodge No 291 and was formally inaugurated with its officers officially installed on August 11, 1907. WM Jose A Reyes was the Worshipful Master, Bro Ladislao Diwa was the Senior Warden, Bro Juan N Santos was the Junior Warden, Bro Basilio San Jose was the Treasurer, Bro Hugo Adorable was the Secretary. ILL Timoteo Paez, 33 Degree, the Soberano Gran Commendador of the future Supremo Consejo del Grado 33 Para Filipinas A&ASR, installed the officers in its Institution and was one of the officiating officers in its Constitution.

In February, 1917, the Lodge was among those which BROKE away or seceded from the Gran Logia Regional de Filipinas of the Gran Oriente Espanol; but had to affiliate with the American Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands as the issue of FUSION was not realized.. There was NO merger or fusion as had been promised or promoted. Several other lodges and individual Master Masons reverted back or rejoined the Gran Oriente Espanol, but the Bagong Buhay Lodge 17 remained.

On September 10, 2006, the members in a stated meeting, voted unanimously to BREAK away from the GLP and to join or form a new grand Lodge – the Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands The reasons were: to exercise its time immemorial right to form Grand Lodges, the issue of Masonic injustice regarding the suspension of its WM without due process, failure of election reforms resulting to electioneering and the rise of the so-called “Grand Master By Purchase”, inefficient administration, bankruptcy of the Fraternity insurance system and the failure to resolve or sanctioned those involved, dictatorship emanating from its American oriented Constitution among others.

The Lodge continued to grow and strengthened itself despite the damage to its temple by typhoons, the loss of its revenues, or the dwindling of its membership through the years. The Lodge rise resulted from the dedication and commitment of its leaders and members. Today new members are initiated with the full conviction of the strength of its Lodge virtues and the value of Masonry in every ones life.

Looking back and revisiting the past history of Philippine Masonry, we were amazed with the wealth of new discoveries and the contrasting stories which our mentors revealed to us. Among these were:

1. Miguel Morayta founded the Gran Oriente Esoanol on January 9, 1889 with more than 90 Lodges to BREAK away from the newly formed Gran Oriente Nacional de Espana on grounds of fraudulent elections.
2. There are many foreign Grand Lodges, which constituted Lodges or Regional Grand Lodges in the Philippines. Among which were:
a. Gran Oriente Lusitano in 1856
b. Gran Oriente de Espana in 1872
c. Oriente Nacional de Espana in 1887
d. Grande Oriente Nacional de Espana in 1894
e. Gran Oriente Espanol in 1892
f. Grand Orient of France in 1901
g. Grand Lodge of Escosia (Scotland) in 1901
h. Grand Lodge of California in 1901
i. Supreme Council of the Southern Jurisdiction, USA A&ASR in 1911
3. There were many Regional Grand Lodge or Grand Lodge or Supreme Councils that were constituted in the Philippines. Among these were:
a. District Grand Lodge under the Gran Oriente de Espana in March 1,1875 by Rufino Torrejon as Acting Grand President
b. Gran Consejo Regional de Filipinas of the Gran Oriente Espanol in
1893
c. Gran Logia Regional de Filipinas of the Gran Oriente Espanol in 1907
d. Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands in 1912, which BROKE away from the Grand Lodge of California.
e. Gran Logia del Archipelago de Filipinas in 1919 of the Gran Oriente Espanol.
f. Provincial Grand Lodge of the Royal Order of Scotland
g. Supremo Consejo del Grado 33 Para Filipinas A&ASR in 1924 which BROKE away from the Gran Oriente Espanol
h. Gran Logia Nacional de Filipinas under the Supremo Consejo del Grado 33 Para Filipinas in 1924
i. Soberana Gran Logia de Archipelago de Filipinas in 1927 as patented by the Gran Oriente Espanol
j. Gran Logia Republica de Filipinas in 1960’s, which BROKE from the Gran Logia Nacional de Filipinas.
k. Supreme Council 33 and Last Degree, A&ASR of the Philippines in 1950 which presented a Resolution to be INDEPENDENT from the Southern Jurisdiction 33 and last Degree A&ASR USA
l. United Grand Lodge of the Philippines in July 2006 which BROKE away from the GLPI/GLP
m. Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands in September 10, 2006, which BROKE away from the GLPI/GLP.

The century that passed was indeed a history of evolution and revolution towards a TRUE Philippine Masonry. It also manifest the independent act of Lodges to break away and form new Grand Lodges. It exemplifies the independence and time immemorial right of Lodges to form their own Grand Lodge.

The IGLPI was born to establish a true Philippine based Freemasonry actively influenced by the desire for freedom, democracy, equality; and the tenets of brotherly love, relief, and truth

As your Bagong Buhay Lodge Nr 4 continue its journey after a CENTURY of existence, may the GAOTU continue to bless your leaders and members with a renewed vigor to hurdle the new challenges of the century, to enable you to bring back the TRUE faith in Masonry, and to noble you with the virtues necessary to give you wisdom, strength and holiness to build the better temples in the heart of men.

The IGLPI officers and its 8 Lodges and members greet you once again in the celebration of your century of life in service to GOD, country, people and yourself.

CONGRATULATIONS !!!

Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 Centennial Year

El Nuevo Vida Logia # 4
(The Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4)
5907 - 6007 Anno Lucis

"El Consejo del Ciudad de Cavite ya reconoci El Nuevo Vida Logia # 4 del Agosto 11, 2007"

"The City Council of Cavite recognized the Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 on August 11, 2007"

On August 6, 2007, the Sangguniang Panglunsod of Cavite adopted Resolution No. 07-081, "A resolution recognizing the exemplary, meritorious and outstanding achievements and worthy contributions extended by the Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 (formerly No. 17) under the auspices of the Most Worshipful Independent Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippine Islands (IGLPI) to the City Government of Cavite and its inhabitants"

The resolution was very timely since the Lodge will celebrate its memorable 100 years of existence on August 11, 2007 and the adoption of the recognition of the noble and distinguished Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 is considered an addendum to the momentuous moment in the commemoration of the historic Lodge centennial years.

The recognition was in deed a beautiful gift from the City Government of Cavite more particularly from the City Council and a great surprised when it was read during the program of the centennial celebration held on August 11, 2007 at VWB Artemio A. Tadiar, Jr. Hall, Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 Masonic Temple, San Roque, Cavite City.

For a brief backgrounder, founders and members of Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4 under the jurisdiction of the IGLPI (chartered and numbered Lodge No. 291 under the Gran Oriente Espanol, then rechartered and renumbered to Lodge No. 17 under the GLPI and GLP) are Masonic distinguished leaders, prominent propagandists and revolutionary leaders during the Spanish regime.

On August 11, 1907, the first elected officers of Lodge No. 291 were WM Jose Ariosola Mariano Reyes PM (1906 - 1910; 1915; and 1916) as its Master; Bros. Ladislao N. Diwa PM (1918) and Bro. Juan N. Santos as Senior and Junior Wardens, respectively. They are known associates of Dr. Jose Rizal, Gat Andres Bonifacio, Teodoro Plata, Apolinario Mabini, Felipe Buencamino, Ramon Diokno, Gen. Pantaleon Garcia, Baldomero and Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo.

There were distinguished leaders and members of the Lodge who were originally members of other Lodges. Among the brethren of Sinukuan Lodge No. 272 who were residents of Cavite and affiliated to the Lodge that became Past Masters of Bagong Buhay Lodge were: WB Emilio Espinosa PM (1912); WB Pedro del Carmen PM (1913 - 1914); WB Felipe Cabezas PM (1922); and WB Valeriano Custodio PM (1929); the other prominent leaders of the Lodge were: WB Emilio Basa PM (1917); MWB Rafael Palma PGM (1920); MWB Emilio P. Virata PGM (1947); and WB Gervacio Pangilinan PM (1937).

In modern times, there were also prominent personalities of the Lodge: WB Dr. Jesus Tranquillino PM (1956); WB Judge Angel Rica. Alvarez PM (1968); WB Mayor Julian C. Medina, Jr. PM (1969);WB Artemio A. Tadiar, Jr. PM (1991-1992); Bros. Bishop Alberto C. Ramento and Rev Fr. Nilo P. Ramos of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente; Bro. Vice Admiral Pio Carranza PN; Bro. Brig Gen. Francisco Callelero PAF; Bro. P/Supt. Asher Dolina PNP; Bro. Capt. Roberto Q. Estioko PN; Bro. Capt. Reynaldo Bernardino PN; WB Jaime V. Bantolo PM (1999), adopted son of Cavite City and GM of the IGLPI; and the incumbent City Mayor Bro. Bernardo S. Paredes; to name a few.

In 2005 to 2007, the Lodge eventually had to part with its adopted school - the Bagumbuhay Elem. School which for decades held their classes in the ground floor of the Lodge and had graduated thousands of school children, including several brother Masons. The ravages of time and termites had deemed it dangerous for the school to continue. Bro. Mayor Totie Paredes generously put them up in a better, newly constructed school building. Nevertheless, the Lodge maintained its umbilical cord to them with the signing of Memorandum of Agreement in 2005 to make the school its beneficiary of the Adopt-A-School project. The Lodge also supported indigent but deserving students from different schools. This was initiated by WM Jun Necessario, WB Ric Alvarez, WB Bert Esperat and Bro. Bay Aquino who also personally helped other students on their own.

The other exemplary, meritorious and outstanding contributions of the Lodge in partnership with the City Government of Cavite and its inhabitants were: feeding and scholarships programs to the students of Bagumbuhay, Lorenzo Ruiz, Porta Vaga, Dalahican, Ovidio dela Rosa Elem Schools and Cavite National High School; participation in Alay-Lakad program, Independence Day, Ladislao Diwa, Julian Felipe, Thirteen Martyrs of Cavite, Jose Rizal and Cavite Mutiny of 1872 celebrations; providing financial assistance and support to persons with disabilities; instituted drug awareness programs through the conduct of symposiums and seminars; medical and dental missions; financial assistance and support in the renovation of San Rafael Chapel at Barangay 42C (Pinagbuklod, San Antonio, Cavite City; and many others.

Through the years, the Lodge moves forward and has remained steadfast to its chosen name "New Life" (In Cahavacano dialect - Nuevo Vida).

To the brethren of Bagong Buhay Lodge No. 4, congratulations, happy birthday and more power.

And a million thanks to the City Government of Cavite more particularly to the City Council of Cavite.

(Note: Attached herewith is reproduction of the resolution, as soon as the original copy is already scanned and available, same will again be posted to form part of the documented materials for future references).

Without Permission

The MW Jim Bantolo’s short History of Philippine Freemasonry was certainly illuminating especially the events that unfolded in Spain before the Philippine Revolution. The similarity of the schism between Grande Oriente Nacional de Espana and Gran Oriente Espanol, their principle and membership are somewhat striking relative to Masonic activities in pre-United States e.g. Moderns against Ancients. In one hand, a pro-establishment Grand Lodge and the other, a young upstart anti-establishment Grand Lodge.

In the recent published book Solomon’s Builder by the author of Freemasons for Dummies, Bro Christopher Hodapp narrated that in the history of Freemasonry in U.S., Grand Lodges established itself in the same manner that the Grand Lodge of England created itself--- individual Lodges forming alliance among themselves. Even the late-comers known as “Ancients” from York formed their own Grand Lodge WITHOUT asking anybody. At the conclusion of Chapter 4 (War Among Brothers), the author wrote that due to schism between Ancients and Moderns in England and America, “… Masons in the United States had fallen into the pattern of founding their own individual Grand Lodges.”

A History of Philippine Masonry

Bro Ben Apacible reported the visit of the Deputy Grand Master of the Gran Oriente Espanol/Grand Lodge of Spain in the Philippines last month in search of the Grand Lodge which they patented in 1924.

Our research showed that the 27 lodges under the Gran Logia Regional de Filipinas , under the Gran Oriente Espanol, BROKE OFF and AFFILIATED with the Americans - Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands with their 10 lodges in 1917 under the reason of FUSION.

When the FUSION did not happen, the lodges REVERTED back to the Gran Oriente Espanol.

In 1924, a DISPUTE aroused between the Grand Master of the Gran Logia Regional de Filipinas and the Grand Delegate of the Gran Oriente Espanol. This dispute resulted to the formation of two (2) Grand Lodges , namely : the Supremo Consejo del Grado 33 Para Filipinas , which BROKE OFF, and the Gran Logia Soberana del Archipelago Filipinas.

In 1924, the Gran Oriente Espanol granted a Patent to the Gran Logia Soberana del Archipelago Filipinas. This Grand Lodge has dwindled reportedly to only one (1) lodge located in Manila. This Grand Lodge is NOT recognized by the GLPI / GLP.

It is interesting to note that BREAKING OFF is an INDEPENDENT ACT. The same is true for affiliating. What a history of Philippine Masonry. For Masonic education of Filipino Masons. Please pass.

After reading a lot of masonic history, it can be concluded that all Grand Lodges were created by INDEPENDENT ACTS of the Lodges.

Bro Ben had already written about the history of the Grand Lodge of Japan which BROKE OFF from the GLP. There is the history of the United Grand Lodge of the Philippines (UGLP) of Leyte-Samar which BROKE OFF from the GLP. the Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands (IGLPI) which BROKE OFF from the GLP, the Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands (GLPI) which BROKE OFF from the Grand Lodge of California.

On April 4, 1888, some 160 Lodge representatives met for the purpose of merging the Gran Oriente Nacional with the Gran Oriente de Espana. The result was a new Grand Lodge to be known as Grande Oriente Nacional de Espana. In the election, the Viscount of Ros, Alfredo Vega was elected Grand Commander.

MIGUEL MORAYTA BROKE OFF from the newly organized Grande Oriente Nacional de Espana, airing charges that the election was FRAUDULENT.

With over 90 Lodges, he organized the GRAN ORIENTE ESPANOL on January 9, 1889 with a goal of actively propagating Masonry in the Philippines.

What Masonic history teaches us is that GRAND LODGES COULD BE CREATED WITHOUT PERMISSION OF ANYBODY...

Please pass for Masonic illumination.

In Response to the Report of the Grand Master (Series Nr 3)

This is the 3rd serial on the querry " what was the Report of the GM at ANCOM 2007, and What was Really Approved by the Grand Lodge?". I hope that this will clarify the oft repeated statement thet- the formation of IGLPI was a personality issue. For your appreciation.

June 19, 2007 (Updated July14, 2007) - Bro Jim Bantolo

IN RESPONSE TO THE REPORT OF THE GRAND MASTER
( Series Nr 3)

“ON THE APPOINTMENT OF DDGM”

The GLP Grand Master reported in the ANCOM 2007, that the “the formation of IGLPI was rooted to the refusal to respect the appointment of VW Mario G Marasigan as DDGM for District Region 4A Cavite”.. It cited the authority of the GM under Part 1, Article IX, Section 2(o) to wit “ To divide the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge into Districts, and to appoint his official representative to be known as the District Deputy Grand Master, for each District” This is not the appropriate basis. This Section pertains to organizing or dividing the jurisdiction into Districts and consequently to appoint his representative, It follows the authority of the GM “ To create Regional Grand Lodges and to appoint the Regional Grand Master”.

The GLP Constitution specially provided a separate Part I Article XVIII and Section 1 for the “Qualifications, Nomination and Appointment of the District Deputy Grand Master” This is the process to be followed. This was modified in a Cavite Covenant and placed in the District Constitution and By-Laws to allow a rotation policy with the DDGM coming from the Host Lodge; and which was respected by all PGMs since 1987; and gave peace and harmony among the 17 Lodges in Cavite..The District Constitution and By-Laws is provided for by Edict 127 and undergo a GM/GLP approval process for any amendment.

Of about 54 Masonic Districts in the Philippine GLP jurisdiction, there were several Districts mostly in Luzon where PGM YU appointed a NON-District Nominee; causing TURBULENCE and sometime DISRESPECT and NON_ADMISSION of the DDGM.

Almost every year, there is a Lodge or District Resolution calling for the GM to appoint his DDGM from the 3 Nominees of the District. The primary reason is HARMONY, UNITY, LOYALTY, and close cooperation between the Grand Lodge and the District. This includes a multi-district Resolution from the Disricts of Davao-North and South Cotabato when PGM YU was the Regional JGL.

There are countless recorded and unrecorded incidents of disrespect to or non-acceptance of the DDGM and other District Officers. The reasons range from being non-nominated; to lack of qualification; to lack of acceptance or support; lack of Masonic credentials; to lack of proficiency. In all these turmoils, the GM exerted efforts to harmonize the situation peacefully.Almost all of these were harmonized properly,EXCEPT for CAVITE

The process of selection and appointment of a DDGM for Cavite was started by PGM YU as early as September 2005 and culminated in the Cebu ANCOM in April 2006. There were many PGMs and illustrious elders and leaders of Philippine Masonry who whispered good counsel to him to respect the Cavite Covenant or “gentlemen’s agreement” It was an agenda item among the PGM’s meetings.

PGM YU had told me that :
1. He acknowledge the Rotation Policy of Hosting DISCONs and of the DDGM coming from the Host Lodge as is done in Davao,
2. He will appoint his DDGM from the Host Lodge and will announce his name at the proper time at ANCOM, This he told me TWICE before ANCOM.
3. Wala na ang alitan o problema nila ni VW Joseph Capuyan. Tapos na iyon…
( VW Capuyan wrote the Cavite brethren electioneering charge against then VW Romeo A Yu when he ran for JGW in 2003. VW Capuyan is the leading Nominee for DDGM from the Host Lodge).
4. He asked me that we give him 3 names or Nominees for DDGM. To this, I complied.

However, PGM YU appointed someone else from a non-host lodge; and made the reason of citing his powers to make appointments and that VW Capuyan does not have his confidence and trust nor did VW Capuyan exerted efforts to gain his trust and confidence. As early as March 2006, his cohorts or ”bata-bata” in Cavite knew what is coming and secretly acted and denied anything despite my discovery of a list of who ordered aprons and collars at the GLP Masonic Supply. His cohorts also spread and inflame the YU-CAPUYAN feud, which is non-existing. When I returned a week later, the saleslady was tightlipped and refused to answer again my querry.

What infuriated most of Cavite brethren were; the appointment of a DDGM who is a non-nominee, a much less qualified; a much less trustworthy; a much less prepared, a non-JW, a non-SW, from a much later host lodge, a Mindoro Lodge member, a 4 Cavite Plural lodge member, 6 years in Masonry; and the appointment of 8 DGL’s coming from 3 Cavite Lodge only – to rule and govern Cavite 17 Masonic Lodges; and in infidelity to the Cavite Covenant or “ gentlemen’s agreement” and of the District equity rule in the spread of District officers.

The issue was – what is power when there is no harmony? You cannot dictate or order harmony; it requires good leadership to achieve, foster and maintain it…For 17 Lodges, the District had found the harmony and equity formula, but the GM YU refuses to recognize its beneficent value for Cavite Masons, and insisted on his power to appoint someone else.

Albert Pike wrote “ weigh well what it is you promise; but once the promise and pledge are given, remember that he who is false to his obligation will be false to his family, his friends, his country, and his GOD… The word of a Mason, like the word of a knight in times of chivalry, once given must be sacred…”

Is there something wrong or bad or unlawful with formulating a “gentlemen’s agreement” in the further interpretation or of defining the implementing rules or regulations to a higher Edict? Was there anything wrong when then MW Taylor and RW Quezon formulated the “Gentlemen’s Agreement of 1917” by alternating between the American and Filipinos the election of the Grand Master for the GLP? This is indeed considered “ELECTIONEERING” but apologist considered it as harmoniously relevant and accepted during those times and which lasted up to 1974. Is PGM YU really bound to respect the Cavite Covenant? Will you consider the PGMs since 1987 to be harmony bound in respecting the Cavite Covenant? Will you then consider the Taylor-Quezon Gentlemens Agreement to be unconstitutional? Will you consider the PGMs and the Grand Lodge duty bound to respect the 1917 Gentlemens Agreement? As to why it ended in 1974, I am not aware of.

There was a long debate on the word “may nominate”. The only justification was that “ there should be NO diminution of the GM’s vast power”.But his power to appoint was NOT diminished. Further, the District exercised its Constitutional right or prerogative to nominate three (3) recommendees for DDGM for consideration of the GM. It was in fulfillment of appointing the best qualified Masons to assist the GM govern the Grand Lodge and achieved his program goals with the utmost cooperation and support of the Lodges and District.

The GLP Election also provides for NOMINATION for the JGW which are considered by the Council of PGMs, and which narrows down the selection to 5 to be voted upon by the Grand Lodge. NOW WHAT IF THE GRAND LODGE DOES NOT ACCEPT THE NOMINEES JUST LIKE WHAT HAPPENED IN THE CEBU ANCOM? … A LARGE WALKOUT OF ABOUT 700 DELEGATES HAPPENED !!! WHAT A DISHARMONY !!!

What immediately followed was the May 3, 2006 General Trias Manifesto signed by 24 Cavite Masons affirming fidelity to the Cavite Covenant and to express displeasure to the violators. Immediately,on May 21, 2006 at Emilio Aguinaldo Lodge No 31, the KAPULUNGAN NG MGA KAPATID SA KABITE (KKK), was informally organized as a forum to express support and fidelity to the Cavite Covenant. It was composed of the best and illustrious Mason and Lodge leaders of Cavite

The formation of IGLPI was a later event which was influenced by many valid issues, causes and reasons.

Hence our ideals are enshrined in the IGLPI Declaration of Independence and its Constitution..This forms the true basis and roots of the formation of IGLPI. Other issues or causes or basis are all subsumed in this principal root or has accelerated its formation

Hence our vision of “ A FRESH START FOR TRUE MASONRY ‘

The formation of the Most Worshipful Independent Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands is therefore rooted in the exercise of our freedom and time immemorial right under the Constitution for LODGES to form a new Grand Lodge in compliance to time honored standards of Recognition used by the United Grand Lodge of England and adopted by the GLP on January 27, 1932 where we are united in harmony to practice and exemplify the tenets and teachings of Freemasonry under a regime of justice, equality, democracy.

GLP/IGLPI Dialog

Bro Joselito P. Tamaray
Kalilayan Lodge No.37

Let me respond to the proposal of some brethren that a dialogue should be had among brother masons.

At the outset, let me emphasized that I am not privy to any effort made by the leaders of our Grand Lodge to win back our brethren who decided to secede and create their own Grand Lodge. But efforts have been exerted to convince them to rejoin us and in fact even Past Grand Masters were privy to it but to no avail.

Time will only tell when the brethren concerned will see their way through all this temporary confusion. I still believe in the wisdom of each brother mason who enmeshed himself in the true spirit of masonry free from any bias or hypocrisy and adheres strictly to the time honored principle of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth!

We have reasons of our own to do things different or even contrary to what we believe. Thats how intellectuals work and for as long as one believes in what he decides to do, that is reason enough to respect him.

There will always be differences among masons and in the sacred institution of Freemasonry for its members are not perfect. The teachings of Masonry are perfect but those who practice it are not!

It is about time that we should re-examine ourselves and our own masonry instead of focusing on matters alien to masonry. We cannot profess to be called masons if we do not understand our purpose why we are in masonry in the first place. We cannot even convince others of the beauty of this noble institution if we ourselves do not know how beautiful it is to become a mason. We cannot even delight ourselves that we belong to masonry when we trample upon the basic tenets we are oathbound to preserve.

Yes, my brethren, IL EST TEMPS! Its about time to focus on something good for masonry and for humanity. May we all heed the call for a better masonry in us!

Fraternally,

Past and Recent Events: GL of Japan and Phillipines

Brethren Greetings!

I have read so many postings on events that affected our fraternity. As early as February this year, I posted in egroups and sent to individual Masons my compilation of "Recent Events in Philippine Masonry" and which was later found in Yahoo and Google Search. Some brethren found this compilation too lengthy to read.

I am once again breaking my silence on these issues and attaching only the "meat" of my paper in this email which will save the brethren much of their time in reading the entire document.. As I have said before, I only presented facts, documents and events from December 2005 to January 23, 2007 and I leave it up to the reader or researcher to make his own conclusion(s).
Events That Affected Our Fratenity.

Thank you so much and may the GAOTU bless and guide all Masons withersoever dispersed.

Attached for your additional reading and reference material is a Brief History of the Grand Lodge of Japan taken from

Brotherly Events

by Bro Jim Bantolo
3 July 2007

Two events happened this week which reflects on the true meaning of Brotherly Love and should be an example of why we should be harmonious and united in Masonry,

The first, was a call for type B blood donation by VWB Jonathan Tan of Zamboangan Lodge Nr 310 GLP & PDDGM , which was sent to VW Dodo Cambaliza, Grand Senior Deacon, IGLPI. Immediately, Bro Dodo sent out a series of text messages to brothers in the IGLPI. A response was relayed on the availability of donors ready to proceed to St Lukes Hospital. But VWB Jonathan responded that his mother died an hour ago and gave his appreciation and thanks.

The second happened during the wake and funeral services for VWB Rolly Sarmiento, PM Jose Rizal Lodge Nr 1172 New York City, USA, member Araw Lodge Nr 18 GLP, PM Mendez Nunez Lodge Nr 316 GLP, PDDGM Masonic District Nr 2 GLP, member Mendez Nunez Lodge Nr 8 IGLPI. Bro Marcelo David, a Permanent Deacon of a Catholic Church and member of Jose Rizal Lodge Nr 1172 New York rendered a funeral service and benediction. This was followed by the Masonic Funeral service presided by VW Ed Bayot Grand District Supervisor IGLPI. The services was attended by Masons from Cavite Province Lodges, from Manila and from New York all of 3 Grand Lodge Jurisdiction. There were about 70 Master Masons who came to give their respect and affection to a Brother. All sat and stood beside each other. All communicated and ate together for lunch. To top it all, VWB Rolly wore his GLP DDGM Apron and his HIRAM Award GLP.

We can do it. Please pass to all Filipino Masons.

Objects Of Brotherhood

by Reggie Estialbo
Logia Bonifacio#2
Gran Logia Nacional de Filipinas
Kawit, Cavite

The Universal Brotherhood of men seeks to propagate the true light to all the people of the world. “Masonry possesses its universality, the character which has been peculiar to it from its origin”. It is not confined to any particular country but to all parts of the world inhabited by human beings. Albert G. Mackey, in his Manuals of the Lodge, says, that by the exercise of brotherly love, we are taught to regard the whole species as one family; the high and low, the rich and poor; who as created by one Almighty Parent, and inhabitants of the same planet, are to aid, support, and protect each other. On this principle, Masonry unites men of every country, sect and opinion, and conciliates true friendship among those who might otherwise have remained at perpetual distance.

At present, there are at least four known jurisdictions of Masonic Order in the Philippines: the Gran Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines which emanated from the Grand Lodge of California, the Gran Logia Nacional de Filipinas and the Soberana Gran Logia del Archipielago de Fiipinas, both progeny of Gran Oreinte Espanol, and the latest addition is the Independent Grand Lodge of Philippine Islands, which resulted from their secession from the first. Although the symbolic lodges of the first and the last use the York Rite ritual while the second adopted the same rite as the third, that is the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, nevertheless, their aims and purposes are similar and identical; the same as those practiced and diffused by all other Masonic jurisdictions throughout the world. Following the tenets of the Universal Family, that we belong to the same Almighty Parent, it is incumbent for each jurisdiction to cultivate friendly and brotherly relation toward each other. They must have mutual understanding for they are linked and bound by the same belief, faith and affection. Charity begins at home, runs the wise saying that, which we have learned from the instructions given and inculcated in our hearts and minds, must first be practiced within the Universal Family and then to world outside.

Unhappily what we observed from certain quarters of our world is the exact opposite. There are some who displayed their egoistic deeds, as if theirs are the only one worthy of consideration and accolade. Their appraisal of their own work is so great that made us quiver. We believe that the greatness of a thing depends generally and irrevocably to its usefulness and the wise impressions that it renders to every one. It is the deeds but not the words or winks of an eye or gestures that bear good fruits. From a learned man, we found a very good advice which runs thus: “Above all, be in conscious communion with cosmic love which is expressed in all nature’s developing creatures, in every realm of creation. Cultivate health of mind with its continuity of youth, beauty of soul and heartfelt sympathy and live temperately and naturally. Always be searching for the greater good, for the best in everything, never wasting valuable time on negatives and non- essentials which never help us to achieve success”.

The Golden Rule is that “Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart.” (Leviticus 19:17) We agree and adhere to this teaching. This precept might be explained to mean only that you must not injure him, nor insult him, nor vex him, and so the words “in thine heart” are added to forbid us even to harbor hatred in our heart without giving it outward expression. Causeless hatred ranks with the three capital sins: Idolatry, Immorality and Murder. The Second Temple, although in its time study of the law and good works flourish and God’s commandments were obeyed, was destroyed because of causeless hatred, one of the deadly sins.

It is a fact, nobody can deny, that, the benevolent affections will not revolve around selfishness; the cold-hearted must expect to meet coldness; the passionate, anger; and the violent, rudeness. Those who forget the right of others must not be surprised if their own are forgotten; and those who stooped to the lowest embraces of sense must not wonder, if others are not concerned to find their prostrate honor, and lift it up to the remembrance and respect of the world.

Let us mend our own ways. Let us be true to our tenets and make fraternal relations sweeter than ever. There is no place for egotism in Masonry. Masonry teaches only and has preserved in their purity, the cardinal tenets of the old primitive faith. It has taught no doctrines, except those truths that tend to direct to the well-being of men; and those “those who attempted to direct it toward useless vengeance, political ends, and Jesuitism, have merely perverted it to purpose foreign to the pure spirit and real nature.”

The history and literature of this jurisdiction has been made clear to the whole world. The Gran Logia Nacional de Filipinas under the auspices of Supremo Consejo de 33 para Filipinas, First in the Far East has been founded and constituted for the purpose of making it an effective instrument for the unification of all masons in the Philippines, in general, and of all Filipino masons, in particular. The unity of the Philippine Masonic Family, which is still most anxiously awaited, perhaps is one of the remedies to unite our country. The United States has long line of Presidents and public officials who are affiliated with Masonry, and actively performing their duties according to the Masonic interpretation, who have made their country prosperous and progressive. It is wise to follow examples of this nature that will give our country the lasting peace, progress and contentment.

It is the aim and purpose of masonry to alleviate and enlighten all the people in all parts of the world. Ours is not an exception, nor certain distinct race of people: white, red, black, yellow, and others, all are children of a Mighty Parent and should therefore share equally to the most sublime teachings and benefits derived from the Universal Brotherhood of men. Our lodges must be opened to all these brethren, who have nothing in their heart and mind but the sacred love for T. G. A. O. T. U. The commandment of Masonry is this: “that ye love one another! He that saith he is in light and hateth his brother remaineth still in the darkness.”

The objects of Brotherhood of men are to comfort, protect, and aid each other in our journey through the labyrinth of human life and to make its hardships lighter by means of cheerful companionship and social pleasures. The realization of such loving kindness is through the effective adherence to and observation of all Masonic tenets and the practice and application of all moral virtues if we wish to give glory to masonry and light and life to the world, the true spirit of Universal Brotherhood. In all our ways acknowledge Him and He will direct our paths.

VW Rolly Sarmiento

“…IGLPI claims that VW Rolly is in their roster and listed as No. 1. GL has to act on this and decide who really has the right to give the NECRO services to avoid embarrassment..” --- GLP member

We have anticipated this situation. The guidance is that we are duly made Master Masons in a duly constituted Lodge and we are BROTHERS forever regardless of Lodge or Grand Lodge affiliation. We anticipate many groups to render their respective honors to the dead. All the acts of our planners WM Ador Ramos of Mendez Nunez Lodge Nr 8 and our Grand Supervisor VW Ed Bayot are to be cleared with the family and with RW Roxy Sarmiento, Grand Auditor IGLPI. We honor the wishes of the family as our basis of action.

The participation of VW Rolly Sarmiento in the planning and formation of IGLPI are known to us. As I said, he is number 1 in the Roster of Members of the Lodge Nr 8.

The PGM YU and GLP Edicts 232s have rendered its verdict in spite of its injustice and Masonic doctrinal anomaly. Its implications and latent consequences are surfacing.

Masonic traditions and teachings states that it is 3 or more Lodges which form Grand Lodges, NOT an assembly of brothers at Kawit. The Lodge, with its members, temples, properties, funds TRANSFER to a new Grand Lodge, unless the member DEMITS, is suspended, expelled or delisted by the Lodge. The OLD Lodge DIE.

But PGM YU, in his act to impede our compliance to a Standard of Recognition of sovereign and full control over our Lodges RESURRECTED the dead Lodges. I have issued Edict Nr 2 declaring them as "NON-LODGES" or phantom lodges. They have NO more Charter to warrant their existence. I have also issued Memorandums to purge the List of Members and to DELIST those active in the non-lodges."Mendez Nunez Lodge Nr 316" is one of those non-lodges.

The body of VW Rolly will lie at the Mendez Nunez Lodge Nr 8 Temple. Let BROTHERLY LOVE prevail. We will meet on the LEVEL and part by the SQUARE. We UNITE in the outpouring of our love and affection to a BROTHER and a MASON. The occasion will manifest the HARMONY of Cavite Masons.

Moving On and Forward

by King_Solomon636
27 June 2007

The wisdom and insight of VW Raul S. A. Laman regarding the customs and traditions of the craft is greatly appreciated. Too bad it came out a little late for the ANCOM... but surely is never late for the enlightenment of the brethren. You see until now, roughly 2 years from the establishment of the IGLPI, many are still in the dark of what has happened to Cavite, and are instructed or told to treat masons of the IGLPI as clandestine. A true mason will know the definition of a clandestine mason while a fool will believe with hearsays and propaganda. In truth, many did join the IGLPI due to their dismay on how the issue and crisis was treated by the GM.

In a growing masonic district, in any jurisdiction, It is essential that harmony be preserved at outmost importance, harmony being the strenght of all societies especially of ours. And in this consideration, men has deviced a way as to how this will be preserved. As in many districts in the country, Cavite chose to have a gentlemen's agreement so as to keep the district in harmony and undivided.

Ang gentlemen's agreement na ito ang nagpatahimik sa distrito sa loob ng mahigit dalawang dekada, only to be destabilized by someone from the outside of the district.

Now again this maybe moot and academic as the verdict had been already laid down last ANCOM. We are moving on and forward. As I've said, future generations of masons will judge us as on how we treated the issue. But indeed it is nice to hear that not all brethren were convinced of the validity of the decision and commending them for their resolve and the strenght of their character as a man and mason. Masonic injustices may have prevailed now, but not for long. For brethren will gradually realize, hopefully sooner than later, that there will never be no other tenets more powerful and enduring than brotherly love, relief, and truth.

Mabuhay po ang Masonerya!
